In a league filled with some of the best teams and players in Class 4A, the starting point guard of the smallest school in the Little Hawkeye Conference is off to a fast start.

Joslyn Terpstra has taken a big step from her sophomore to junior season, and with nearly a third of regular season games played for Pella Christian already behind them, she’s turned in some impressive numbers.

Terpstra’s 19.2 points per game is 4th in the conference and her 5.5 steals per contest leads the league. Those numbers are also both top ten in Class 2A.

Eagles Head Coach Brad Engbers believes the biggest key to improvement has been a combination of strong offseason work and Joslyn’s growth in confidence.

“Her composure this year, and I told her after the game how proud we are as a coaching staff of her composure and leadership, and that maturity has come a long way with success as a fine soccer player and great cross country runner. And that’s carrying over to the basketball court now too. Last year I think she would have been frustrated in some situations that she was in tonight, and tonight she just let it roll off her and makes the next play.”

Pella Christian is 2-4 and awaits No. 9 Grinnell this Friday at home for a conference doubleheader.
