A high wind warning is in effect for all of Iowa, and locally, from noon to 11:59 p.m. Wednesday. Sustained winds between 30-40 MPH are expected, with gusts as high as 70 MPH possible.
All residents are reminded to secure any potentially loose items now. Trash cans and barrels can blow away and cause additional damage. During the wind event, everyone should avoid driving if possible, especially with high profile vehicles. Widespread power outages are possible and extensive tree damage is likely. Everyone should stay on the lowest level indoors, and away from windows during the peak wind gusts, which are expected from 4 p.m. to midnight locally.
An increased risk for severe weather is now part of the forecast, especially in the late afternoon and evening. Any thunderstorms that develop could cause significant gusts up to 80 MPH. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion and Warren Counties.
Many area schools are opting to end classes early. Find an updated list at the top of the home page.
