PCM’s basketball squads flexed their muscles and bounced back with a Heart of Iowa Conference sweep over Perry, a doubleheader that was broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.

The Mustangs’ girls used a strong fourth quarter to get the victory over the Jayettes, 40-34. PCM led by 12 at halftime before Perry came back and tied the game at the end of the third quarter. After the Jayettes took the lead, the Mustangs went on an 8-2 to seal the deal. The star of the night for PCM was Addison Steenhoek, who scored a career-high 21 points, including knocking down three three-pointers. Coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez says that she was very impressed with her offensive outburst.

“I put a lot of pressure on her and finally she just stepped up offensively and did what we see in practice every day, so I am glad it paid off for her tonight, so that everyone else can see what she can do.”

With the win, PCM goes to 3-6 on the season and 2-1 in Heart of Iowa Conference play.

The Mustangs’ boys dominated Perry from start to finish, coming away with a 70-37 victory. After a slow start, PCM’s offense picked up the pace, finishing the first half with 41 points. Durant Van Dyke led the way in scoring for PCM, knocking in 19 points, including a half-court buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter.

Carson Vandelune chipped in 12, including three three-pointers. PCM now has a 3-5 record, including a 2-1 record in conference play.

Both teams will be back in action for another home Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader Friday night as they take on West Marshall.
