Iowa State University has released results of its 2021 Farmland Value survey, which found that the average statewide value of an acre of farmland is $9,751. This is a 29 percent increase from last year’s survey. The nominal value of an acre of farmland is now higher than at any point since Iowa State University began surveying values in 1941, and is 12 percent higher than the previous peak in 2013. However, the survey notes that the value in inflation-adjusted terms is still lower than that for 2012 and 2013.

Locally, the average value per acre of farmland in Marion County is $8,669, while the average value in Warren County is $9,021.

The positive factors associated with the value increases were higher commodity prices, favorable interest rates, and strong yield. The negative factors listed were higher input costs, sustainability of high land prices, and changes in interest rates.
