The Christian Opportunity Center is a public benefit organization whose mission is to integrate Christian values in empowering individuals with disabilities to realize their full potential. The center remained open despite the pandemic, and operates locations in Knoxville, Pella, Indianola, Oskaloosa and Des Moines. While the organization is doing well economically, staffing has been an issue during the pandemic, and has resulted in the temporary closure of four Home & Community Based Services group homes. Jody Tukker with the organization says working for the COC is a personal investment that will help transform the lives of those they serve.
“You invest yourself in this job, you get to know the people supported, the people supported get to know you, you get invested in each other’s lives. Both parties are blessed by that relationship. It is truly a job founded on relationships. Being able to make personal connections with people supported as you help them meet their goals and live the most fulfilled life. It’s very meaningful work.”
The organization is always accepting donations to continue the pursuit of their mission.
