Residents of Homestead Assisted Living in Knoxville recently donated a portion of their earnings from their twice-weekly bingo games to a charitable cause. Through a partnership with Riverside Church, staff was able to purchase blankets, socks, gloves, and other items to donate to the church for distribution. Dee Swink with Homestead says the residents thought it was a worthy cause and did not hesitate to donate.

“The last couple of years have been tough on everybody, but especially the elderly. I think it meant a little more this year for the residents to be able to help out. A lot of them here don’t have much extra, but the bingo money is a lot of what they get extra. But they didn’t even hesitate to give away a portion of their winnings to the less fortunate.”

The residents raised $175 throughout November. The donations will be distributed in the coming days.
