The Indianola wrestling team took first place in chart 4 in the Battle of Waterloo over the weekend, setting themselves up in a spot in the finals where they would match up with the #1 ranked teams in class 1A, 2A, and 3A.
The Indians won in the group duals vs Bishop Heelan 61-15 with wins by fall from Carson Cooper at 106, Cael Meacham at 132, Ethan McDonald at 152, Bryce Aldridge at 160, Walker Whalen at 195, James Naughton at 220, and Cael Crawford at heavyweight.
The Indians then took down Pleasant Valley 41-32 with wins by fall from Bowen Downey at 113, Meacham, Naughton, and Crawford, and then took down Independence in the first place match 43-24 with another win by fall from Meacham, Ryder Downey at 152, Whalen, Naughton, and Crawford.
Then in championship pool play, the Indians fell to #1 in class 3A ranked Waverly-Shellrock 49-18, with wins from Bowen Downey, AJ Pontier, Ryder Downey, and Cael Crawford. The Indians then fell to #1 in class 1A Don Bosco 40-22, with wins from Ryan Young at 113, Bowen Downey, Isaac Seger at 126lbs, Bryce Aldridge, and Crawford, then fell to #1 in class 2A West Delaware 38-26, getting wins from Young, Bowen Downey, Meacham, Pontier, Ryder Downey, Whalen, and Crawford.
The Indians won’t wrestle again until 2022, facing off against multiple schools in a meet at Carlisle on January 6th.
