The Pella Christian basketball teams traveled to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Tuesday night where the Eagles fell in the girls game 83-61, while the Pella Christian boys came away with a 69-50 victory, with both games heard live on the KRLS 2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
Pella Christian hung tough with the Rockets in the girls game as they knocked down 15 three-pointers in the contest. While the Eagles shot the ball well, they struggled on the glass, as EBF outrebounded them 44-26, which allowed the Rockets to build a lead that Pella Christian couldn’t cut into. Joslyn Terpstra led the way for the Eagles with 21 points, all of which came in the second half. Karlie Anderson and Emri Agre also reached double figures adding 12 a piece for the Eagles.
The Eagles boys basketball team collected another complete team effort victory before the holiday break. Pella Christian knocked down eight three-pointers, compared to the Rockets four, and won the rebounding battle 33-25 to knock off the top team in the South Central Conference. Four Eagles reached double figures in the scoring column against the Rockets. Levi Schelhaas and Aiden Stoltz led the way for Pella Christian with 15 points each, with Jaedon Huisman and Eric Mulder adding in 11.
With the holiday break giving the Eagles a much needed rest, both Pella Christian girls Head Coach Brad Engbers and boys head coach J.D. Boer said they’re looking forward to allowing their teams to get healthy.
Engbers: “Yeah we’re going to take six days off here between now and Christmas. We’ll start up practice again next Tuesday and then it will just be a matter of working on some conditioning things. We just have to be ready for the second half of the season.”
Boer: “We’re not going to practice for a week. We’re going to take a week off which will be really good for our guys, and they just really need to get some rest. Some of these guys are coming off an illness for a week, and just rounding back into shape, and they just have to get themselves back into shape. So, everyone’s in a little bit of a different spot and we talked about that a little bit and kind of what that’s going to look like for the next week. You know I’m excited to get back to practice and really gear up for the stretch run here.
The Eagles girls fell to 2-6 on the year with the loss, while the boys improved to 6-1 with the victory. Both teams are off until January 4th when they host Dallas Center-Grimes.
