11 games into the 2021-22 season, PCM’s girls’ basketball squad is buying into first-year head coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez with getting better every day and showing defensive intensity.

The Mustangs currently sit at 3-8 with a 1-2 Heart of Iowa Conference play on the holiday break, but show flashes of potential from young players. The leading scorer for PCM is Freshman Addison Steenhoek at just under nine points per game. Addison’s sisters, Paige and Sophia, also continue to show improvement on both sides of the ball. Coach Allison-Rodriguez says despite the lapses, she believes her team is buying in.

“Those moments happen, but defensively I feel the kids are really locked in and I am thankful for that. We’ve talked about how offense is going to be a struggle, because we don’t have a natural scorer.”

PCM’s first game back from the break will be January 7, which is the first part of a girls/boys road Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader with South Hamilton.
