Central College wrestling seniors Shandon Akeo and Rob Areyano remained in the second regular season National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III rankings, released Friday.
Akeo moved up to No. 3 and Areyano remained at No. 11.
Akeo is 10-0 on the season, winning five times by fall. Three of his falls came in the first period, including twice within a minute of the match starting. He earned a bracket title at the Pointer Open in November.
Areyano is 9-2 on the season, winning six times by fall. He has won six straight matches and has notched 18 takedowns. He has wins against No. 12 Riley Wright of Coe College and his only losses have come against a Division II wrestler and the No. 4 wrestler from North Central College (Ill.)
As a team, Central is 5-2. The Dutch are on a five-match winning streak after losing their first two matches against No. 8 Coe College and No. 14 Johnson & Wales University (R.I.).
Central is off until hosting a triangular against Schreiner University (Texas) and St. John’s University (Minn.) on January 7 in H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse.
