Near record-warm air greeted the region for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but more winter-like conditions will return this week.

According to the National Weather Service, chances are increasing for some mixed winter precipitation possible Tuesday across south central Iowa. Behind it is much cooler air, with wind chills near zero by Wednesday morning.

A cooler stretch is in the forecast moving long-term, with below average daytime and overnight temperatures more consistently returning.
