Preseason expectations have largely played out for many teams in the boys basketball season one-third of the way through competition.

According to the BCMoore Power Rankings, Pella entered winter break as the 4th best team in Class 3A and Pella Christian is 5th in 2A. The site is based on a mathematics formula that weighs strength of schedule and offensive and defensive scoring average.

The defending Class 3A champions have had the 4th best offense in 3A at 68 points per game against the 13th toughest schedule among those 64 teams. They have a 5-2 overall record.

Pella Christian is off to their best start since 2016-17 — when they finished as the 2A runner-up. The 6-1 Eagles have the 10th best offense among 2A teams at 66 points per game and the 18th best defense against the 18th toughest schedule.
