11 games into the season, PCM’s boys basketball squad has struggled to take care of the ball.
The Mustangs currently sit at 5-6 on the season with a 3-3 record in Heart of Iowa Conference play. PCM through 11 games has averaged just under 18.5 turnovers per game, including 22 turnovers in their last game, a loss to Roland-Story. Carson Vandelune is currently leading the team in turnovers per game at just under four despite averaging a team-high 17 points per game. Coach Fred Lorensen says that cutting down on the turnovers could help PCM win more games.
“There’s no question, the number one thing we got to do is we got to stop turning the ball over. I think we are averaging over 18 turnovers per game. When you play really good teams and you do that, you are not going to fare very well, so we need to take care of the ball. It’s not against good teams, it’s against everybody, so it is a common thing we need to take care of.”
The second half of PCM’s season begins with a non-conference matchup at Earlham on Monday.
