A new qualification is being added to the Elderly and Disabled Property Tax Credit, a form that reduces the amount of property taxes for those over 65 or disabled, in 2022. Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette says certain groups of people should look for a big change soon.

“The Department of Revenue has added another layer of qualification. If you or someone in your household is over age 70, and your household income falls below a certain threshold – I don’t know what that number is going to be yet, but I do know it’ll be less than 250 percent of the federal poverty level – you may qualify for a property tax freeze going forward.”

Bigaouette says details are still in the works, and to contact her office to be added to a mailing list if they may qualify. More details will be available in the new year.
