A pair of ranked Dallas Center-Grimes teams spoiled the new years’ opener on Eagle Lane, as Pella Christian’s girls fell 56-13 and the boys dropped a top-ten showdown 62-40, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS Tuesday.

The opener with the No. 6 in 4A Mustangs was doomed from the start for the Eagles, as DCG opened on a 10-0 run and forced 20 first-half turnovers. Pella Christian scored one field goal total after the 1st quarter — which came as time expired in the 4th, and were held scoreless in the 3rd. Joslyn Terpstra scored eight points in the effort.

A top-ten showdown between the #5 in 2A Pella Christian boys and #1 in 3A DCG started with the road team pulling out to a nine-point lead in the first half. P.C. climbed back in the 3rd, tying the contest with under a minute remaining at 34. The Mustangs hit a buzzer-beating three before the 4th, sparking an 11-0 run and a 4th quarter where they outscored the Eagles 25-6. An Eric Mulder 10 point, 10 rebound double-double paced Pella Christian.

Pella Christian’s girls drop to 2-7 overall and are still searching for their first conference victory, while the Eagles boys fall to 6-2 and 2-2 in league competition. Both teams hit the road to Newton Friday.
