New drone footage of the ongoing demolition of the VA buildings in Knoxville is now available. The community was notified on January 7, 2005 that the facility would close, and the last patients were moved to Des Moines on December 18, 2009. Plans for the site include a housing development, along with commercial and mixed use of the approximately160 acres.
