The Warren County Board of Supervisors approved the first phase of the Warren County Shop Site at their meeting Tuesday, accepting a bid for slightly over $6 million to move the shop, the mechanic bays, and the wash bays to the site on Nevada St. south of Indianola. Warren County Supervisors Board Chair Aaron DeKock tells KNIA News the shop has been in discussion with various boards for nearly over a decade, and it was time to get it done. DeKock also said there will be benefits to taxpayers long-term with the new site.
“The current shop site is beyond bad. It doesn’t serve our needs, and we have a lot of equipment that sits outside. There will absolutely be some return in extending the use of our equipment, the longevity of our equipment. Today it’s -6 degrees out, it’s not ideal to have a $50-60k piece of equipment sit outside and be exposed to the elements more than they need to. So if you can get a couple more years of life out of your equipment, and we have the scale of equipment to cover the 650 miles of gravel roads in the county, that adds up.”
