All three winter sports teams came away with sweeps Thursday night as Pleasantville’s basketball squads sweep Colfax-Mingo, while the wrestling squad sweeps their quadrangular at Colfax-Mingo.
The Trojans’ girls dominated Colfax-Mingo for the second straight year, coming away with a resounding 59-20 victory. Adi Adreon continued her hot shooting as she knocked in 20 points with another five three-pointers. Adreon now has 17 made shots from downtown over the last three games. Freshman Joelle Johnson caught Adreon’s shooting bug and hit four threes, chipping in 16 points. The win improves Pleasantville to 7-5 on the year. Coach Jeff Cook says that the combination of defense and taking care of the ball was key in getting the victory.
“Well, we took better care of the basketball, we played really good pressure defense, and we dominated the game.”
The Trojans’ boys’ basketball squad got back in the win column with a 63-35 victory over the Tigerhawks. Pleasantville’s defense turned up the intensity and came away with their fifth win of the year. Mason Scheve led the way for Pleasantville, scoring 21 points and hauling down four rebounds. Andrew Pender was second on the team in scoring, chipping in 15 while also coming away with five steals. The win puts Pleasantville at 5-4 on the season.
Both teams will have a quick turnaround as they will go on the road for a West Central Conference doubleheader at Interstate-35 tonight. The doubleheader begins with the girls’ game tipping off at 6:15 PM.
The Trojans’ wrestling squad swept the quadrangular at Colfax-Mingo, dominating all three opponents. Pleasantville started off the night defeating the host Tigerhawks, 56-24. The Trojans then followed that up with their largest win of the meet, trouncing Montezuma, 69-12. Pleasantville capped off the night by defeating BGM, 60-22. The Trojans had a total of 16 victories by fall in the evening and improved their dual record to 9-4.
Pleasantville will be back on the mats Saturday for their first tournament of 2022, which will be at PCM.
