Central Wrestling hosted Simpson College among others at the Central Under Armour Invitational Saturday. No team scores were kept this year at the meet, but wrestlers representing 14 different colleges competed.
Rob Areyano highlighted the home invitational for Central capturing the title at 149 pounds for the Dutch. Gage Linahon went 3-1 on the day at 197 pounds, securing second place. Samuel Zook went 2-1 at 285 pounds and finished third. Cael Cox and Cooper Stigsell added fourth-place efforts at 133 and 184 pounds, respectively. Duncan Delzell rallied to capture the consolation championship at 149 pounds by winning his last two matches of the day. In the Silver Division of 133 pounds, Leo Blawou went 2-0 to take the title.
For Simpson, Dylan McChesney won the 125-pound title and pushed his win streak to seven in the process. Robert Silva wrestled to a second-place finish in the 157-pound bracket, making his way to the finals with two major decisions and suffered his first loss in 10 matches to a Division II wrestler from Minnesota State Mankato. Shyler Langley placed fourth in the 174-pound bracket and Shane Mathias added a fifth-place finish in the 184-pound division for Simpson.
Central will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Loras College for a dual against the Duhawks at 7 p.m. Simpson continues tournament action on Jan. 15 at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell.
