The Iowa Legislature began its 2022 session yesterday. Senator Amy Sinclair represents District 14, which includes all or part of Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Marion and Wayne Counties. Sinclair tells KNIA/KRLS news that one priority for her will be a tax cut. She says that Republicans will look at scaling back income tax rates as the state’s rainy day funds are full at 1.2 billion dollars along with another billion dollars in surplus funds. She adds that, “the revenue estimating conference came out about a month ago with a number that shows that next year we will have about a billion dollars more in revenues than we have in expenditures this year.”
Republicans have held the Senate, the House, and the Governor’s office for the past five years.
