The use of blue light glasses has become a trend promoted by many celebrities as a way to reduce the amount of blue light taken in from the various types of screens we use. They are supposed to protect your eyes from eye strain, headaches, fatigue and blurry vision.
While the glasses do affect the amount of blue light your eyes take in, Dr. Jason Maasdam with Eye Health Solutions in Knoxville tells KNIA/KRLS News that blue light glasses may actually be doing more harm than good.
“You 100% unequivocally do not need blue light glasses, ever. In fact, I could make the argument that they are doing more harm than they are good. So, blue light glasses block the supposed harmful effects of blue light from your cell phone and your computer screen, but when you go outside, you’re going to get 100,000 times the amount of blue light to your eye from natural sunlight than you’d ever get from a screen.”
Just because JLo, Kylie Jenner, and Chrissy Teigen say so, doesn’t make it true.
