The traditional matchups between the Pella and Pella Christian High School basketball teams have provided plenty of entertainment on the court — and support for others off of it.
Marion County Bank’s halftime entertainment at the Pella vs. Pella Christian basketball game on Thursday night earned the schools a $3,350 donation from Marion County Bank.
Students from both schools worked together in the event by shooting layups, free throws, three pointers and half court shots to earn a donation from Marion County Bank. Drew Geetings of Pella Christian hit a half court shot for a $1,000 donation.
This first total will be combined with the Halftime Shootout winnings earned during the second Pella vs Pella Christian game on Thursday, February 10 on Eagle Lane, and will be split evenly between the high schools and contributed toward their Student Activity funds.
Since 2007, over $115,000 has been given to Pella Community High and Pella Christian High from Marion County Bank during the halftime events of the Tulip City showdown.
This came in addition to the Pella Dollars for Scholars pork supper, a food drive challenge between Pella and Pella Christian for the backpack program at the Pella Food Shelf, and donations to support a cure to end AHC (Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood).
