The Melcher-Dallas Elementary PTO is challenging their students to help make a difference in their school and learn at the same time. Students began a two-week Read-a-Thon fundraiser yesterday with the purpose of having students read for as many minutes as possible from January 17th-January 31st. The fundraiser will raise money for the PTO to help fund the needs of teachers, field trips, and purchase needed supplies for the school. Teacher and PTO member Holly VanWyk tells KNIA/KRLS News that the students are excited about the Read-a-Thon and the reward if their class reads the most minutes.
“They’re really excited about the reward that they get. The class that reads the most minutes and the class that raises the most money, both of those classes get to go on a field trip to Urban Air. That’s a trampoline park up in Ankeny and many of them haven’t had the opportunity to go yet, so they’re really excited for a chance to possibly win that.”
They are asking for businesses and individuals to help by sponsoring readers with a flat donation and short message to encourage the students. To donate, go to this link.
