Gov. Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Economic Development Authority announced more than $500,000 in grant funding will be awarded to rural communities across the state through the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative.

The City of Knoxville is receiving a $20,000 Rural Innovation Grant for a major redevelopment project on former school property and the Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance earned a Rural Return Grant of $20,000 to incentivize new residents with recreational incentives, combined with a marketing strategy.

Prairie City received a $1,000 Rural Leadership Bootcamp Grant for a community leadership program.
