Tonight, the current Class 3A state basketball champions will honor a part of their past. Nearly twenty years ago, the Pella boys won the 2002 championship — the first basketball title in school history, and eventually became a two-year back-to-back title run.

Vance Schuring was one of five junior starters on the team, and he hopes that their legacy is one of being not only a championship team on the court, but also good individuals away from it.

The current Pella basketball team is ranked 3rd in Class 3A, and one of the favorites to compete at the state tournament in March and repeat as champions — which would match the efforts of the 2002 Dutch.
