The Indianola City Council approved the road closures schedule for the 2022 road improvements plan at their meeting Tuesday, allowing the Public Works Department flexibility to close roads for repairs as needed. Interim City Manager Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News if an ordinance such as this is not in place, it can add additional time to projects and emergency repairs.
“We see instances all the time where a property owner has a sanitary sewer line going into their house that has an issue, and the emergency repair requires a road be closed and pavement dug up to expose where that connection is made to the sewer main. Rather than waiting two weeks at times for council to approve that road closure, and would come at a detriment to a homeowner, we now have the flexibility where the Public Works Director can close a road on an emergency basis if there is a reason for that.”
