The Knoxville Basketball Squads will try to end the week on a high note after both teams suffered thorough flat performances in losses on Tuesday to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The girls, while no longer in the running for even a share for the South Central Conference title, can still lock up at least 3rd place and a winning record in the conference with a win over Centerville tonight. The Big Reds were one of the wins the Panthers got this season when they shut down the Centerville tandem of Racheal George and Mickey Stephens to a tune of eight points combined in a 41-29 win on January 4th. The boys should have confidence coming into tonight’s contest as they ripped Centerville 86-69 earlier in the month on a night when they shot 55% from the field and 42% from three point range, both season highs as well as 86 points, also a season high. While young with very few seniors on the roster, Sophomore post player Jack Bertrand tells KNIA/KRLS Sports this season has been a building season to what he hopes in a couple of years becoming something special.
Bertrand: “It’s more like these tough losses build character, and we’re still getting used to each other, and we try to learn from adversity, and this is just a building year for us.”
