Pleasantville’s basketball squads swept Woodward-Granger in a West Central Conference doubleheader Friday night, while the wrestling squad will have their final tournament of the season at ACGC.
The Trojans’ girls’ basketball squad broke their three-game losing streak with a victory over Woodward-Granger 59-32. With the win Pleasantville matches their win total from last season and clinches double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since from 2009-11. Joelle Johnson led the Trojans in scoring, knocking in a career-high 18 points. Malorie McKinney was second on the team in scoring with 11. Pleasantville’s record stands at 10-8 on the season and 5-6 in West Central Conference play.
The Trojans’ boys dominated Woodward-Granger and got their second straight win, winning 61-25. With the win, Pleasantville surpassed their win total from the previous season, improving their record to 9-7. Mason Scheve led the way in scoring, knocking in another 25 points. Dayson Leerhoff notched another double-double, scoring 16 points and hauling down 14 rebounds. Pleasantville also improves their West Central Conference record to 6-5.
The Trojans’ boys will be back in action for a West Central Conference matchup Tuesday at home against Woodward Academy. Pleasantville’s girls will be back in action Thursday in the first half of a West Central Conference doubleheader at West Central Valley.
The Trojans’ final tournament of the regular season is the Charger Invitational at ACGC today. Pleasantville is coming off winning seven of their final eight duals as a team, including winning the last five. The Trojans will compete with 21 other teams at the invitational, including West Central Conference foes ACGC, Earlham, Ogden, Panorama, Van Meter, West Central Valley and Woodward-Granger. Pleasantville will also compete against Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas. A milestone will likely be reached today as Senior Kitt Lundy goes for his 100th career match win. Coach Heath DeForest says that he is proud of how Lundy developed through his four years at Pleasantville.
“He has grown and is continually still learning. He’s always wanting to be a better wrestler. He’s really developed into that leader, so very excited for him. I am hoping he caps his career off with a deep state run.”
The tournament at ACGC High School gets underway at 9:00 AM.
