The Central College basketball teams split with Coe College in a women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader Saturday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Dutch avenged an early season loss to the Kohawaks in the women’s game 67-53, while Central fell in the men’s game 85-59.
The Dutch, led by a career-best 25 points and 12 rebounds from Allison Van Gorp, scored their first win in American Rivers Conference play. Central capitalized on their interior advantage to outscore Coe 38-14 in points in the paint. Kassidi Steel nearly recorded a triple-double with 14 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Head Coach Joe Steinkamp was thrilled by his team’s performance.
In the men’s game it was a Coe 48-point first half performance that doomed the Dutch in the loss Saturday. Forward Caden Mauck was the lone Dutch player to score in double figures in the loss with 13 points.
