The Central College basketball teams fell Monday night to different opponents. The Dutch men fell at home to American Rivers Conference leader Dubuque 70-46, while the women’s team lost on the road to Buena Vista 73-52.

In the men’s game, Dubuque outrebounded the Dutch 42-24 and dominated the offensive glass 18-4, leading to a 20-2 advantage in second-chance points. Despite the disappointing result, The Dutch got encouraging performances from Caden Mauck and Kade Terrell. Mauck had 14 points, nine rebounds, and knocked down three 3-pointers, while Terrell came up with six steals and eight points. The Central men’s team fell to 4-14 overall, and 1-9 in conference play.

The Central College women’s basketball team struggled on offense in the road loss at Buena Vista University. The Dutch shot just 26.9% from the floor in the first two quarters and 3 of 11 from the free throw line. Central did improve to shoot 33.3% for the game but lost the battle on the glass 45-28. Kassidi Steel followed up her near triple-double against Coe College with a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds to pair with five assists and two steals. Allison Van Gorp added 15 points and six rebounds in the loss. Central’s record dropped to 3-10 overall, and 1-6 in the American Rivers Conference.

The Central basketball teams have a quick turnaround as they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska Wednesday for a women’s-men’s doubleheader at Nebraska Wesleyan.
