Iowa State Senator Jim Carlin, a Republican from Sioux City, spoke in Pella Saturday night to a crowd of approximately 75 people. Carlin is challenging Senator Chuck Grassley in the primary election for U.S. Senate. Carlin was introduced by Helena Hayes, of New Sharon, a member of the group “Protect My Innocence.” In her introduction, Hayes says the group was formed to “combat evil” and the sexualization of children.

Carlin spoke of his faith, and what he felt to be his top legislative achievements, including the “Heartbeat Bill.” He said it is time to quit being “nicey nice” because “nicey nice” can’t win. He says Democrats have a radical agenda, and that “if you want to destroy a country, you have to destroy the moral foundation of that country.” Carlin says other major threats to our country include technology in the hands of children, China, and big government.

Questions from the audience were wide ranging–from the 2020 presidential election to Covid. Carlin said he believes the 2020 election was probably stolen from former President Trump. However, over 60 court decisions, including those involving Trump appointed judges, and the conservative US Supreme Court determined that claims about significant voter fraud in the 2020 election are without merit. Carlin also believes that Ivermectin cured his Covid, and that it should be widely available.
