With the end of the season nearing, PCM’s basketball squads will be back on the road for a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader tonight at West Marshall.

The Mustangs’ girls will have a tall task going up against the No. 10 in Class 3A Trojans, who are also the frontrunners to win the Heart of Iowa Conference. The Mustangs lost their previous matchup to West Marshall December 17, losing 56-35. PCM is coming off a tough loss to Perry Friday night, losing 40-33 after winning three of their previous four games. The Mustangs have been banged up for most of the season, with Paige Steenhoek, Evelyn Burkett, and Elianna Buswell missing time due to various injuries. Steenhoek has returned to the lineup, but PCM’s bench has gotten considerably thinner as the season has gone on.

The Mustangs’ boys will try to continue their hot streak in the second half of the season against the Trojans. PCM’s won five of their last six games thanks to additional practice time and better play defensively. Their lone loss was to the defending Class 3A Champion and No. 3 in Class 3A Pella Dutch January 10th. The Mustangs won their last three matchups leading into tonight, with wins over Saydel, Greene County, and Perry. PCM also won their last matchup with West Marshall back on December 17th in overtime, 60-51. With a win, PCM would match their win total from last season at 11.

The doubleheader at West Marshall High School gets underway with the girls’ game tipping off at 6:00 PM.
