The Central College basketball teams traveled to Lincoln Nebraska Wednesday night for an American Rivers Conference doubleheader with Nebraska Wesleyan. The Dutch won the women’s game 58-46, while the men’s team dropped a hard-fought game, 96-90 in double overtime.
In their second long road trip in three nights, the Central women’s basketball team put together a great defensive effort Wednesday, limiting Nebraska Wesleyan to 25.8% shooting from the field in the game. Annie Swaters came off the bench to deliver 17 points and Kelsea Hurley posted a game-high 23 to lead the Dutch to the victory.
In the Central men’s game, the Dutch led by seven with 1:26 left in the game, but Nebraska Wesleyan would mount a comeback to send the game into overtime with a 3-pointer in the closing seconds. In overtime, the Dutch led by two with just 35 seconds left, but the Prairie Wolves would again answer to force double overtime. In the second overtime, Nebraska Wesleyan would pull away to take the six-point victory. Kade Terrell scored a career-high 28 points but that wasn’t enough for the Dutch to secure the win.
The Central women’s basketball team improved to 4-10 overall on the season and 2-6 in American Rivers Conference play, while the Dutch men’s team fell to 4-15 overall and 1-9 in the league play. Central returns home Saturday to take on Loras College in a women’s and men’s American Rivers Conference doubleheader. The Dutch were swept by Loras on January 8th.
