The Knoxville Fire and Rescue Departments handle fire suppression, EMS, and transports, but Chief Cal Wyman tells KNIA/KRLS News that the departments serve the community in many other ways.

“There’s a lot more that goes on under this roof. This building does all the fire codes we use for the city, it does all the plan reviews for the city, code enforcement, fire prevention, community education. There’s a lot that goes on under this roof that you don’t think about, you don’t necessarily know where it happens in the city, but it’s happening and a lot of times it’s coming out of this building.

As housing in Knoxville grows and service calls increase, Wyman says more equipment and staff will be needed.
