It was a happy homecoming on Eagle Lane as the Pella Christian basketball teams picked up their first conference sweep of the winter season, with a girls 40-26 victory and boys 45-25 win Friday, heard on the KRLS2 stream.

The opener wasn’t perfect with more than combined 50 turnovers between the Eagles and Cardinals, but the P.C. girls led wire-to-wire and pulled away in the 4th quarter with free-throw shooting. Joslyn Terpstra hit 13 consecutive shots from the charity stripe to lead the Eagles with 21 points, adding eight steals, and Faith Kacmarynski had an 11 point, eight-rebound, six-steal performance.

Pella Christian’s boys found a bit of déjà vu at home vs. Newton, as the #7 in 2A Eagles fell behind early — albeit a much smaller deficit than the first matchup with the Cardinals on the road, and a late-1st quarter into 2nd period run of 14-0 bolstered the home team and gave them an advantage they would grow to 23 at one point in the 2nd half. Levi Schelhaas paced a balanced Eagles scoring attack with 11 points.

The P.C. girls found their first win since December 6th, 2021, and first conference win of the winter, while the Eagles boys improve to 13-5 overall and 8-4 of the conference, now in a tie for 3rd with Pella. A boys only day of basketball comes to Eagle Lane today, as Pella Christian welcomes Van Meter. The #7 Eagles and #8 Bulldogs lock horns in a potential state tournament preview at 3:30 this afternoon. Coverage begins at 3 p.m. on the KRLS3 stream and the Pella Christian High School YouTube Channel.
