Marion County Deputies were dispatched to a home on East Weston Dr in Hamilton, Iowa on Saturday for a domestic incident. The report came from a woman who informed the deputies that she had been dragged from her car and across the ground resulting in an injury. According to court records, when the deputies approached the defendant, Otto Beals, 57, he attempted to walk into a bedroom against the orders of the deputies. A struggle ensued when the deputies attempted to prevent him from entering the bedroom, resulting in an injury to one of the deputies. Later it was determined that the bedroom contained several firearms. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt tells KNIA/KRLS News that the deputy’s injuries could have been avoided.

“Well, I think that it just emphasizes the importance of people complying with lawful commands of deputies or police officers and it shows the inherent risk of law enforcement nowadays. This individual was non-compliant and when a deputy or police officer gives commands, the people need to follow them, so no one gets hurt.”

Beals faces one count of domestic abuse assault resulting in injury and one count of interference with official acts resulting in bodily injury.
