The final week of the regular season means the final road trip together for the girls and boys basketball teams on Eagle Lane of the winter season as Pella Christian travels to Oskaloosa this evening.
The #6 in 2A Eagles boys (14-5 overall, 8-4 in the conference) all but had their Little Hawkeye Conference championship hopes dashed a week ago, losing to #2 in 3A DCG (10-2 in the LHC) last Tuesday in a 30 point loss, but strung together back-to-back wins at home vs. Newton Friday and #8 in 2A Van Meter Saturday. Pella Christian is trying to gain more steam heading into the playoffs against an Oskaloosa boys team (4-13 overall, 1-11 in the LHC) that has been more competitive recently but still have lost five games in a row. The Eagles are trying to extend a three-game winning streak over Osky.
Opportunity may be knocking for the Pella Christian girls (3-16 overall, 1-11 in the LHC), who found their first win in nearly two months last Friday vs. Newton — also their first tally in the victory column against league opponents this winter. Oskaloosa’s girls have a two-game winning streak vs. PC after they snapped a 28-win Eagles’ consecutive victory mark one year ago in February. The Indians (10-9 overall, 3-9 in the LHC) have only defeated Pella Christian and Newton in the conference standings this winter.
