The Indianola School Board approved a raise in substitute teacher pay at their meeting Tuesday, with both the daily rate and long-term sub rate going up by $10. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the board wanted to recognize the hard work of substitute teachers

“There are sub shortages. We are doing fairly well but we want to stay competitive with what we pay and reward those tried and true subs that come in, we have a lot of retired teachers for example that really serve our district well. So we kind of made an unusual move to increase rates mid-year. We increased the daily rate to $140 and the long-term rate up to $200 and we’ll revisit that again in the fall.”
