Iowa House File 2128 passed through the Iowa House of Representatives, and if passed by the Senate, requires that gas stations statewide sell gasoline with higher blends of ethanol. The bill first was introduced last year, but Iowa House District 28 Representative Jon Thorup tells KNIA/KRLS News that the current version of the bill is much better for smaller operation gas stations.
“It was presented last year, and I was against it, I was fairly vocal about not being in favor of that. Now, this year there are a lot more resources available as part of the bill. If one of these businesses has to break concrete in order to put in a new tank, then they are eligible for funds to have that taken care of where it doesn’t come out of their own pocket.”
Thorup added that he is currently working on figuring out the number of gas stations in the area that would qualify for these funds.
