The United States Department of Justice sentenced former U.S. Army soldier Jason L. Adkins, age 46 of Swan, to 76 months in prison for committing sex crimes against a minor in the Southern District of Georgia. In addition to the sentencing of 76 months in prison, Adkins was ordered to serve 15 years of supervised release upon completion of the prison term. Adkins pleaded guilty to Abusive Sexual Contact with a child under 12 years of age.

Adkins was arrested in 2019 in Altoona, Iowa, and officials with the Altoona Police Department contacted Army Criminal Investigation Command to report Adkins’ arrest on state child sex crimes charges. A subsequent investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Command determined that similar offenses by Adkins had been committed in both locations. Adkins federal sentence will be served consecutively with a four-year sentence given by the state of Iowa.
