A special ceremony will be held this month at Pella High School for a donation coming in from American Legion Post 89. Commander Don DeKock says the veterans group is donating 175 U.S. flags, so each classroom in the district has one. In 2021, a bill requiring schools to administer the Pledge of Allegiance garnered nearly unanimous support before it was added to a larger bill in the Iowa Senate that included open enrollment, but still passed prior to the 2021 session concluding. DeKock says several dignitaries will be in attendance on Wednesday, February 16th at 1 p.m. in the Pella High School gym, including Governor Kim Reynolds, U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and other state officials. The public is invited to attend and it will be live streamed on Pella Dutch Live.
