Four area wrestlers have qualified for the State Meet from the class 2A District at Knoxville. For the Panthers Marco Alejo at 113 pounds, Luke Spaur at 132 pounds, and Wayne Johnston at 182 pounds all clinched spots as runners up and became the first Panthers wrestlers since 2018 to make the State Meet. PCM qualified one grappler, that was 285 pound wrestler Kaden Clark. The Panthers wrestlers tell KNIA/KRLS Sports hard work has paid off and they are glad to add their names to the qualifiers board outside the wrestling room.
Alejo: “Feels pretty good and we’ve been working since our freshman year, with a lot of determination, and it feels good to finally make it.”
Johnston: “It went exactly as planned. I didn’t know how I was going to win, but I knew I just needed to put it away and I did.”
Spaur: “I feels good and it’s always been a family competition and now I’m just working my way up this board to solidify my place as the best wrestlers in teh family.”
For PCM’s Clark he knew it was not going to be easy, but stayed the corse and was able to punch his ticket to State.
Clark “I knew the first match was going to be the hardest, lost a close match. I knew I wanted to be on that podium, and knew if I stuck to the plan that I would win that last match.”
Match ups will be announced later. The State Meet is this Thursday-through-Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
