With the Indianola Community School District rollout of laptops for all elementary students in the district, the district took a patient approach to reaching this point and made sure there was adequate staff and support available to teachers, students, and parents. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the pandemic certainly brought the virtual learning environment to the forefront, but it was not a move that was made overnight.

“It really is just a tool. A laptop is never going to replace a teacher. A laptop is not the curriculum even if the curriculum is online. So I think we’ve tried to take a measured approach. At the same time we are adding more devices, we are having public showings of documentaries like Screenagers that talk about screen time. There is a next chapter of the doc that focuses on the mental health aspect of that that we will be showing in March.”
