The shorthanded Indianola boys basketball team survived a buzzer beating heave to take down rival Urbandale Tuesday evening 64-63 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indians were on fire to start the game, hitting five three-point buckets in the first quarter and ending with a 20-19 advantage after the first quarter. The two teams battled back and forth in the second quarter with the Indians hitting another four three-point shots, and earned a slim 34-31 halftime lead. The J-Hawks came out firing to start the third, taking a two-possession lead, but the Indians fought back to tie the game at 44 going into the fourth. Indianola took a seven point lead late, but Urbandale hit back-to-back three’s to get back to a one point game, and the Indians survived despite missing free throws down the stretch as Urbandale missed a halfcourt buzzer-beater to seal the win.
Head coach Jeff Ebling tells KNIA Sports the Indians were short handed due to some nagging injuries plaguing the team, but guys stepped up when needed and its one the team can feel solid about.
Dakota Heimbaugh led the squad with 18 points, as the Indians improve to 16-4 on the season. They will next play tomorrow on the road at Bondurant-Farrar to close out the regular season.
