The National Weather Service has released its first of three flood outlooks for the upcoming spring in the Midwest. Senior Hydrologist Jeff Zogg with the NWS Des Moines office says overall low streamflows, soil moisture, and snowpack at this point in the season has the risk near normal for the vast majority of Iowa’s rivers and streams. Zogg says the chances are higher for a wetter than normal spring, but unless there are several heavy snow and rain events over the next month, widespread flooding is unlikely. Another winter storm is taking aim over the Midwest today through Thursday morning, but mainly to the southeast of the region. Locally, roads may be slick this evening and in the morning, but only a trace of precipitation is expected.
