Pella Christian outscored Central Decatur 20-0 in the third quarter of last night’s class 2A boys basketball district semifinal en route to a 59-35 victory in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Eagles built a double digit first quarter lead, 19-9, and held that same edge at halftime, 26-16. Coach J.D. Boer and his staff made a few adjustments in the locker room, then bolted ahead for the runaway victory.
“Offensively we finally made some shots. You know, we were struggling to get going for a little bit. Aiden Stoltz jump started us with a couple of threes, and I thought Tysen DeVries brought great energy all night. When he came in in the third quarter he did a nice job of being disruptive on the defensive end and initiating some offense down here. We made some adjustments at halftime and the guys executed really well to get the ball into the paint and find the easier ones.”
DeVries was P.C.’s leading scorer with 14 points and Stoltz added 10. Both Eric Mulder and Niko Schirz grabbed seven rebounds.
Pella Christian improves to 16-6 and will play Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the district final in Oskaloosa on Tuesday night after the Rockets beat Albia in the first game of the doubleheader last night. P.C. won at E-B-F, 69-50 in December in the final game before Christmas.
