After PCM flexed their offensive muscle in their first two playoff games, they are going to have to do it a third time against one of the best teams in the state Tuesday night.
The Mustangs put up 74 and 64 points in their two playoff victories thus far over Chariton and Pleasantville. Now, with the district final approaching, PCM will have to find a way to get big scoring games again from Carson Vandelune and Durant Van Dyke. Despite the two impressive victories, there are some flaws that need to be corrected. Against Chariton, the Mustangs knocked down just one three-pointer in the first three quarters. Against Pleasantville, PCM struggled against the Trojans’ press in the second half, turning the ball over on a consistent basis. Now, as the Mustangs prepare to take on No. 7 in Class 2A Des Moines Christian, coach Fred Lorenson’s squad will look to put forth their best effort.
“Obviously, we got to handle pressure better. It was a clinic on how not to do it. We threw a lot of bad passes, played a little too fast so we got to focus on slowing ourselves down a little bit.”
The district final between the Mustangs and Lions will be broadcast Tuesday night on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.
