For over thirty years, the Indianola Noon Lions club has provided an American Flag and flag-related information to third grade students in the Indianola Community School District, and that tradition was continued Monday morning at Wilder Elementary.
Judge Kevin Parker, Rick Wilson, Andy Lent, and John Akers with the Indianola Noon Lions taught the students about the history and meaning of the flag, how to properly fold a flag, and more importantly to Judge Parker, foster a sense of patriotism and love for country in the students.
“If we can instill some love for the country, some respect for the flag, some respect for the country, so they become good citizens. Citizens that not only help themselves but help other people, it’s important to us that they have a sense of pride in our country and pride in themselves. And hopefully they do some stuff on their own as they grow up and ask how they can help their country and be a good citizen.”
Parker also said the Noon Lions has provided over 7,400 flags over 32 years of the program.
