The Norwalk Warrior boys basketball team kept their season alive Monday night with a 59-52 win over Des Moines Roosevelt in the Class 4A Group 8 Substate. Norwalk, who never trailed in the game, would lead 18-9 after the first quarter as both teams were feeling out the pace of play early.
Norwalk sophomore Redeck Born would control the offense for the Warriors as he was able to feed fellow sophomore Aiden Harder with timely baskets giving Harder 10 of his game high 17 points in the first half as the Warriors would take a 10 point lead into the halftime break.
Athleticism and timely shooting from Roosevelt junior Jamison Patton would pull the Roughriders back in the game in the second half as Norwalk would lead by just 2, 40-38 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
In the fourth quarter, free throw shooting, rebounding and not turning the ball over would prove to be the keys to success for the Warriors who would go on to win by 7 for their third straight victory.
Norwalk Head Coach Aaron Pelzer tells KNIA Sports the momentum from this win is something the Warriors will need if they want to keep their season going. He says winning breeds confidence and right now he has a team filled with confidence and they will be ready to go on Friday.
Norwalk will next be in action Friday when they travel to Johnston to take on the Dragons in the Class 4A Group 8 Substate Semifinals.
