The Central men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished the first day of the American Rivers Conference Meet on Friday. 

The Dutch women scored three in the pentathlon, including an all-conference effort by Krissa Larson. Larson placed third with 2,929 points after recording the best 60-meter hurdles (9.52 seconds) and long jump (16 feet, 11.25 inches) in the field. Taryn Hintz was fourth (2, 868 points) and Rayna Sickels was fifth (2,582 points). Megan Johnson shaved 55 seconds off her previous career-best time in the 5,000-meter run and moved up to number 3 on Central’s all-time list with a sixth-place finish (18 minutes, 16.62 seconds). In the distance medley relay, Alyssa Mayhew, Abby Gruver, Lauren Coon and Sara Goodenbour finished in fifth place (13:06.83). Cali Coffman finished in a three-way tie for sixth place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-4.5.

Brock Lewis defended his title in the long jump with a season-best mark of 23 feet, 11.5 inches to win. The Central men’s distance medley relay team of Adam Sylvia, Carter Tryon, Noah Jorgenson, and Will DeHaan secured a second-place finish and all-conference honors (10 minutes, 4.95 seconds). In the shot put, Thomas Spoehr placed fourth with a new personal best by over 17 inches (49-5). Theo Baldus also seventh in the shot put (46-4.75). Pole vaulters Brody Klein and Lucas Heitz finished fourth and tied for sixth, respectively. Klein cleared 13-4.5 and Heitz went over at 12-4.7 The Central men also took five of the top-six spots in the heptathlon. Reid Pakkebier is in first (2,619 points) after matching or breaking three personal bests in the 60-meter dash (7.27 seconds), long jump (21-0) and shot put (36-5.5). Brody Klein is second (2,610 points), Jaxon Thompson is in third (2,525 points), Lucas Heitz is in fourth (2,502) points and Nick Thompson is in sixth (2,456 points). Pakkebier qualified sixth (8.47 seconds) in the 60-meter hurdles prelims and will run the final Saturday. Connor Miklos also qualified for the final, taking eighth (8.75) in the prelims.

Day two of the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships starts at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
